Toronto, Canada

Toronto, Canada
What a pleasant surprise! I visited Toronto, Canada with my close friend in October 2013 as a substitute for her original travel buddy and I am so grateful I got the opportunity. This is my friends favourite place to visit and it is understandable why. We spent a week there which was packed with things to do.

Journey to the top of the

CN Tower

Wine Tasting, Hersheys, Friends, Maid of the Mist
Niagara Falls Day Trip
We took a day trip to Niagara Falls which involved a stop half way at a vineyard for some wine tasting. For someone who does not drink wine, I was impressed by how well I got into the spirit and enjoyed many of the tastings. When arriving at Niagara Falls we decided to join the Maid of the Mist tour, and sporting the blue ponchos we set off to get a closure view of the Falls – they’re magnificent The surrounding town also had some lovely tourist shops that allowed us to pick up some gifts, including Hershey’s chocolate and unique Canadian themed Christmas tree decorations – which were a hit with all the family.

Halloween
Halloween Night Out at 'Screemers' Toronto, Canada
One of the best things about visiting in October was getting to enjoy their Halloween celebrations. The decorations of houses and shops and the numerous of Halloween sweet treats available was great. We purchased tickets for Canada’s Premier Scream Park “Screamers” which is definitely not for the faint hearted! The park includes five different sets up based on various horror movies themes and playing on people’s fears. The actors are dressed amazingly and stay in character for the whole experience – terrifying! You get a stub with the list of sets on so you can tick them off as you complete them, feeling a sense of bravery as each one is ticked off. If you’re an adrenaline junkie who’s in to horror movies then I’d say this is a must!

Stanley Cup, Air Canada, Ice Hockey, Mighty Ducks, Maple Leafs
Hockey Game & Hall of Fame
My friend is a huge hockey fan, following the Braehead Clan here in Scotland, so we took a trip to the Hockey Hall of Fame and purchased tickets for an Ice hockey game later the same night. The museum was pretty interesting seeing how hockey have evolved throughout the years, getting my picture taken with the Stanley cup and my personal highlight seeing the Mighty Ducks hockey shirt! The game was held in the Air Canada centre and was everything I expected resulting great night and an exciting game; you wouldn’t expect much else from their national winter sport would you?

CN Tower Glass Floor & View
We went a trip up the CNTower one night. It was an enjoyable night full of interesting facts as we climbed of way to the top. The view was amazing and with it being night seeing all the lights just highlighted the sheer scale of the place. I would recommend it but we didn’t visit the skypod or the restaurant when we went. We did however conquer the glass ceiling, which took a few moments even for someone who is not afraid of heights!

CN Tower from Toronto Island
The city is full of things to do and is even great for simple things like shopping and eating out! The food was great and of course we made a stop at the Hard Rock Cafe to grab some dessert and cocktails and grab our souvenir glass. For a more relaxed day, we went across to Toronto Island. This was a less expensive day as our only real cost was the ferry over, which cost less than $10. The takes roughly 13 minutes  and takes you to a beautiful island where it is packed with different walks, options to cycle, swim, playground for kids, grass areas to relax and have a picnic; really numerous ways to spend you day exactly how you would like. There is also a picture perfect spot with a stunning view of the city, which had lots of tourists snapping pictures and selfies – obviously we joined in too.
